Site safety is an important consideration when remedial construction work is being carried out on infrastructure projects. If a structure, such as a bridge, quantitative indications of instability as a result of the construction or remedial work, the workers’ safety is compromised.
Bridge stability monitoring
Working with a partner organisation, submersible tiltmeters were installed on two of the bridge piers to monitor bridge movement during remedial work. Data was continuously streamed and a sophisticated alarm system was set up on Mote’s backend with multiple alert levels.
Mote’s alarm system has allowed the site contractors to be sure that their work is progressing as planned and that the workers’ safety has not been compromised while they have been working on the bridge. Regular data reports have allowed the site engineers to monitor exactly how the bridge has been moving before, during, and after the remedial has been carried out.
