Transport Agencies: Real World PEMS(Portable Emission Monitoring)

A government transport agency was interested in real-world fuel use and exhaust emissions representative of the New Zealand vehicle fleet. A review of commercially available monitoring systems internationally determined that there was no one system capable of providing the performance, flexibility and responsiveness required within our clients research budget.

High performance, research grade instruments were deployed to measure instantaneous exhaust velocity, NOx, CO2 and PM concentrations as well as vehicle velocity, acceleration, road gradient, driving conditions, OBD information, and ambient temperature. The equipment was validated against a long standing, chassis dynamometer test facility.

Thirty five vehicles were tested ranging from small petrol to large heavy vehicles on a qualified road circuit. The result have been internationally peer reviewed and compared against Vehicle Emission Prediction Models.
